Our Story
Let us take you on a journey of comfort and luxury - dare to unlock the power of your senses.
BKLYN MOSS, pronounced Brooklyn - Moss, was founded by Nara, a woman in tech who was seeking a creative outlet. At the height of the pandemic, she found herself living in Brooklyn and knee-deep in candle wax (figuratively, of course).
With everything closed and feeling still, Nara wanted to do something with her hands, so she picked up candle-making. The formidable contenders were pottery, moss art, and painting. Candle-making was every bit as calming as she had hoped. In the early days, Nara made candles in her kitchen with more misses than hits. Candle making is very much so about balance and chemistry. Figuring out which waxes and wicks went well with the fragrance oils was a challenge, and she’s loved that type of challenge since childhood.
The vision that showed itself over time was a beautiful, and intriguing candle that could make anyone feel good. BKLYN MOSS candles are hand-poured in small batches, use sustainably sourced natural waxes, glassware, and wicks. We also source our fragrance oils from Grasse, France. Our focus is to make candles that transport you to your warmest and most comfortable place. We want you to reach for our candles when you start your day and when you wind down.
Our signature collection of candles are fragrances that remind Nara of her homeland, Dominica. She fondly grew up with the smells of ripe pink guavas. Her late grandmother had a beautiful passionfruit vine growing against her home in the village of Grand Fond. Her childhood was filled with baked confectionaries flavored with almond essence. The signature collection smells like her home, both past, and present.
Nara created BKLYN MOSS to share the peace that she found both in candle-making and in enjoying her candles. She made herself the candles she wanted to experience, and is now sharing them with you. A portion of all proceeds are donated to STEM and art based youth programs that support our next generation.
“This is an ode to my parents and the matriarchs in my life. My late grandmothers, my mother, my sister, my aunts, my nennens, and every woman in the village that raised me. I am so grateful to you all.”
